Fresh snowfall and rainfall in Himachal Pradesh over the last 24 hours have badly affected normal life. There has been a sharp increase in blocked roads, power cuts and disruption in water supply, as stated in the latest evening report issued by the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC).

As per the SEOC public utility report prepared at 6 pm on Wednesday, nearly 885 roads, including four National Highways, are currently blocked due to snowfall, landslides triggered by rain, and icy road conditions. Around 3,237 distribution transformers (DTRs) have been disrupted, while 121 water supply schemes are affected, impacting thousands of households, especially in high-altitude and remote areas.

Several major highways have been closed at different points, including NH-03, NH-05, NH-305 and NH-505. In Kinnaur district, NH-05 between Pooh and Samdu has been closed due to heavy snowfall. In Kullu, NH-305 near Jalori Pass is blocked. In Lahaul-Spiti, key mountain routes such as NH-03 (Koksar–Rohtang Pass) and NH-505 (Gramphu–Batal) remain shut, cutting off many tribal regions.

The worst impact has been reported from Shimla, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, Mandi, Kinnaur and Chamba districts. Shimla alone has 176 blocked roads, along with disruption of 1,082 DTRs and 91 water supply schemes, mainly because of heavy snow and snapped power lines. In Kullu, 98 roads are blocked, while power supply remains badly hit, with more than 1,000 DTRs affected because of faults in main high-tension lines caused by snow and rain.

Lahaul-Spiti continues to remain mostly cut off, with 290 roads blocked and all major routes closed due to heavy snowfall. Chamba district has recorded 91 blocked roads and disruption of 200 DTRs, while Mandi district has 128 blocked roads and 369 DTRs currently out of service.

Local authorities said restoration work is being conducted on a war footing wherever weather conditions allow. Snow-clearing machines and road maintenance teams have been deployed, and power and water supply departments are working to restore essential services on priority, especially in densely populated and key areas.

The local administration has urged residents and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly in high-altitude areas, and to strictly follow advisories issued by the state authorities until the situation improves. As more cold and wintry weather conditions are expected in parts of the state, officials said close monitoring is being done through the 24x7 SEOC control room.
