The weather department’s prediction of light drizzle and snowfall in the higher Himalayan regions on December 8 and 9 turned out to be accurate. On late Saturday evening, light snowfall was recorded in Kedarnath and nearby areas, including Tungnath and Madhyameshwar valley.
This snowfall brought a noticeable drop in temperature, intensifying the cold for locals and visiting devotees.
The lower areas experienced light drizzle, breaking the prolonged dry spell. This has brought some relief to the region, which has been facing drought-like conditions due to weeks without rain. Farmers and locals, who were eagerly awaiting rainfall, are now hopeful for normal rain in the coming days to alleviate the drought threat.
The sudden change in weather has significantly increased the cold, affecting daily life in the region.
