At least one terrorist has been killed and Special Operations Group (SOG) jawan Amjad Pathan of the Jammu and Kashmir Police has succumbed to his injuries in an ongoing encounter in Udhampur district, officials said.
The encounter resumed on Tuesday after a brief halt during the night. The encounter had started late on Monday evening.
Police officials said that during the gunfight, two more SOG jawans were injured, while two more terrorists are also believed to be trapped near the gunfight site.
During the initial exchange of fire, one SOG jawan was injured and later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The encounter broke out after security forces and SOG teams launched a joint cordon and search operation based on credible information about the presence of some terrorists in the area.
Upon closing in on the suspected hiding spot, the terrorists opened fire, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire. According to the latest inputs from sources, firing has stopped for now. However, the entire area has been cordoned off.
All entry and exit points have been sealed to ensure that the holed-up terrorists are killed.
Meanwhile, additional reinforcements have been rushed to the area, and search operations is going on to track the terrorists hiding in the area.
