The Solan Bar Association held a day-long strike to protest against the alleged police inaction in a case in which a local advocate, Rajkumar, was assaulted.
The protesters held a march from the district courts to the Superintendent of Police’s office, demanding immediate registration of an FIR. The protesting lawyers also raised slogans and accused the police of lack of cooperation.
Rajkumar said he stayed at home the day after because of trauma caused due to the incident. He further stated that when he approached the police on Monday, no FIR was registered. He stated that the police did not accompany him for a medical examination at the local hospital, stated that they were short of staff. He alleged that his attempt to undergo a medical examination failed because of absence of police presence.
The police tried to pacify the protesters by saying that they had taken action in the case but the Bar Association insisted on registration of an FIR.
As per the complaint, Rajkumar was reportedly assaulted on January 3 after an altercation when he was attending his brother’s birthday celebrations. He said the accused abused members of the legal fraternity and later followed him to the Saproon police station. He was reportedly pulled out and beaten in the presence of police personnel.
