Shashi Paul, a dedicated teacher from Solan district, has been chosen for the National Teacher Award 2025 by the Government of India.
With more than 14 years of service, Paul has gone beyond regular teaching to make education inclusive, innovative, and community-driven. His key work includes promoting digital learning, inclusive education, and transforming schools with community support.
During the Covid lockdown, he offered free online classes to underprivileged children, helping over 220 students secure admission in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya and other reputed schools.
Deeply committed to child-centered and experiential learning, he set up science and learning labs in rural schools, turning classrooms into spaces where children could explore, ask questions, and learn through hands-on activities.
Paul has also contributed to curriculum development with the State Council of Research and Training, Solan, and Samagra Shiksha. He helped design workbooks, training modules, and teaching material, empowering both students and teachers.
Beyond academics, he has been active in improving school infrastructure through community mobilisation. Working with School Management Committees, Panchayats, alumni, Rotary and Lions Clubs, he gathered resources to build child-friendly toilets, safe drinking water facilities, green spaces, and even a modern computer lab with 10 systems at Government Primary School, Shamror.
These initiatives have not only made schools better places to learn but have also increased enrolment and reduced dropouts in government schools.
