A soldier allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself with his service rifle at an Army camp in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district in the early hours of Sunday, according to official sources.
The incident took place around 3:40 am at the Dharmund military hospital, where Sepoy Vijay Kumar was on sentry duty as part of the 26 Rashtriya Rifles.
Officials said that the reason behind the soldier’s extreme step remains unknown at this stage. His body has been moved to the Ramban district hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Sepoy Kumar was a native of Rajasthan and had recently rejoined duty on March 28, following nearly two months of leave. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
