Suspected terrorists fired at an Army post in the village of Gunda, located in the Rajouri district. The attack happened around 4 am Monday morning and was met with retaliation from security forces.
Following a brief exchange of gunfire, the area was cordoned off, and a search operation was launched.
The Indian Army is conducting this operation in collaboration with the Rashtriya Rifles (RR) unit of the Romeo Force, the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP), and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to locate and neutralise the threat.
Sources reported that one soldier was seriously injured during the attack on the newly established army camp.
The firing occurred near the home of Parshotam Kumar, a Shaurya Chakra awardee and Village Defence Committee (VDC) member who was recently honoured by the President.
The area remains under a security cordon as the search operation continues, with reports suggesting that three to four terrorists may be involved. More details are awaited.
In response to a series of recent terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Army has increased troop deployment in the Jammu region to strengthen security and counter further threats.
Additional troops have been sent to areas including Kathua, Samba, and Doda, as well as to Badarwah and Kishtwar. More troops from Western Command have also been deployed.
This increased deployment marks the first major change since the Chinese face-off in April 2020. The goal is to eliminate terrorist threats in the region.
Over the last one and a half months, Jammu and Kashmir have seen a rise in terror attacks, resulting in numerous security personnel and civilian casualties. Notably, nine civilians were killed in a terror attack in Reasi on June 9.
