Akhilesh Yadav, son of former Bihar minister Rajballabh Prasad Yadav and Janata Dal (United) MLA Vibha Devi, died after his car rammed into a roadside tree in Bihar’s Nawada district in the evening, police said.

The accident occurred around 6 PM shortly after Akhilesh left his residence. Preliminary investigations suggest that the vehicle was being driven at high speed when it went out of control and crashed into a banyan tree. The impact left the car severely damaged and Akhilesh critically injured.

Local residents rushed him to a hospital in Patna, where doctors began emergency treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries around midnight.

Confirming the incident, his elder brother Eklavya Yadav said that Akhilesh had left home in his car when the accident took place.

“He was critically injured and admitted to the hospital, but could not be saved,” he said.

Akhilesh’s death has sent shockwaves through local political circles. He was described by those who knew him as a soft-spoken and amiable individual who largely stayed away from active politics. The incident has also reignited concerns over road safety in the area, with residents urging authorities to take concrete measures to prevent such accidents.

Akhilesh’s father, Rajballabh, had served as a minister in a previous RJD government. Following legal issues and a conviction in 2018, he was disqualified from holding public office. Subsequently, Vibha Devi entered politics and joined the Janata Dal (United) ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections and is currently the MLA from Nawada.
