Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson and senior leader Sonia Gandhi unveiled the statue of Virbhadra Singh, the six-time Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, at The Ridge in Shimla on Monday.
Several senior Congress leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi, AICC in-charge for Himachal Rajni Patil, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Sachin Pilot, Deepender Hooda, and other state leaders, were present at the event.
Thousands of people from across the state gathered at the venue to pay their respects to the late leader. “Raja Sahab is the tallest leader of the state. We are extremely happy that his statue has been erected at the Ridge,” said a supporter holding his poster.
Sonia Gandhi’s presence made the ceremony deeply meaningful for both the Virbhadra Singh’s family and the Congress party. “It is a matter of immense honour that Sonia Gandhi is unveiling the statue. Her presence sends a strong message—not just to Himachal Pradesh but across India—that the Congress never forgets its tall leaders. This moment is not only personal for our family but also a proud occasion for the entire party,” said a family member.
Sonia Gandhi, who has rarely attended public events in recent years, travelled to Shimla especially for this occasion.
