Another disturbing incident of sexual violence has surfaced in Kolkata after a specially-abled woman was allegedly raped in the Port area of South Kolkata.
According to Kolkata Police, the incident came to light after the victim lodged a complaint at the Nadial police station around 12:15 a.m. on Saturday. The police immediately registered an FIR and began investigating. Following swift action, the accused—a 34-year-old man, identified as Mohammad Yasin—was arrested.
“The accused is being interrogated. Initially, some important information has been found,” said Harikrishna Pai, Deputy Commissioner of police (Port Division).
Police officials confirmed that the accused was first brought to the police station for questioning and later sent for a medical examination. The complainant’s medical test has also been completed and the preliminary report has been submitted to investigators.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rupesh Kumar, said, “All the physical examinations of the complainant have been completed. The police have initiated a detailed investigation and appropriate legal action will be taken after verifying the facts.”
Sources said police are also probing whether any other individual was involved in the alleged assault. The background of both the complainant and the accused is under scrutiny.
The shocking incident has sparked anger in the port area. Locals have demanded strict punishment for the accused to prevent such crimes in the future.
“We want exemplary action so that no one dares to commit such an act again,” said a resident.
This comes even as the state reels from another horrific crime — the alleged gang-rape of a second-year medical student in Durgapur. Police have assured that both cases are being handled with utmost seriousness and sensitivity.
