A speeding Porsche car crashed on Mumbai's Coastal Road on Sunday after the driver lost control of the vehicle and ploughed into a central reservation. The driver escaped with minor injuries as the airbags deployed upon impact, though the sports car suffered extensive damage. The collision also disrupted the flow of traffic along the route for some time.
Preliminary reports indicate that no fatalities occurred, and police officers rushed to the scene immediately after being alerted to launch an investigation into the exact cause of the crash.
This incident comes just days after a separate car fire inside the Coastal Road tunnel triggered panic among motorists before emergency services managed to extinguish the blaze in around 20 minutes. A civic official informed the media that the fire broke out at 12:25 pm in the southbound tunnel, which carries traffic from Haji Ali towards Worli.
The fire left several vehicles stranded, causing significant alarm for those caught up in the tailbacks. Viren Shah, the president of the Federation of Retail Traders Welfare Association and an eyewitness who was driving through the tunnel at the time, described the scene as complete chaos, noting that traffic ground to a halt within seconds as terrified people abandoned their cars and fled on foot.
