Another explosion rattled Srinagar airport on Saturday, just hours after similar blasts shook Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital, following Pakistan's launch of Fatah II Surface-to-Surface missiles early in the morning.
Two powerful explosions were heard near the airport around 11.45 am. The intensity of the first blast was so strong that it sent shockwaves through the area, which were felt several miles away.
The blasts triggered panic, with power outages reported across the city and other parts of the valley. Sirens were also heard in certain areas, local sources said.
Earlier that morning, multiple explosions rocked the city after the Indian military successfully foiled several drone attacks launched by Pakistan on Friday night. These blasts were reported near vital installations, including the airport.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha conducted a review of the security situation in border districts on Saturday.
The Office of LG posted on X, "Reviewed security situation in the border districts. Anguished by the loss of lives due to unprovoked shelling by Pakistan."
The post continued, “We have lost brave citizens, including our ADDC Rajouri, Dr. Raj Kumar Thapa, in the line of duty. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.”
The ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated, with Pakistan announcing the mobilisation of its troops along the border and Line of Control (LoC).
In response, United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio earlier held talks with the Pakistani Army Chief, General Asim Munir, urging Pakistan to disengage and de-escalate the situation.
