Debris suspected to be from a missile was recovered from Srinagar’s Dal Lake on Saturday morning, following reports of loud explosions. The incident occurred after Pakistan claimed to have launched missile strikes on Indian territory in the early hours of Saturday, officials said.
Witnesses reported seeing smoke rising from the lake’s surface as the object made impact, sparking panic among residents and tourists in the area. Security forces swiftly cordoned off the site and retrieved the debris for analysis, officials added.
Another suspicious object was also recovered from the Lasjan area on the outskirts of Srinagar on Saturday morning and is currently being examined, officials said.

The debris from Pakistani missiles and projectiles, fired during overnight shelling, was also found at various locations across Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab, indicating the widespread nature of the attacks. Pakistani forces reportedly engaged in heavy artillery shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) during the intervening night of 9 and 10 May, causing significant damage to civilian infrastructure in the region.
Local residents expressed shock at the incident. “We have never seen anything like this,” one resident said, adding that such occurrences are not uncommon near the LoC but are rare in the heart of Srinagar.
In Punjab, a resident recounted a similar incident, stating that a projectile was intercepted and destroyed by Indian security forces around 1:30 am. “There has been no damage whatsoever,” he said, describing the blast as “massive.”
Further debris, including parts of drones, was reportedly recovered from RS Pura in Jammu and Kashmir. Similar findings were made in Punjab’s Jalandhar, Amritsar, and Tarn Taran, as well as in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer, Haryana’s Sirsa, and Gujarat’s Kutch.
The fresh wave of cross-border hostilities followed Pakistan’s launch of missile strikes on 26 locations across India on Friday night, to which Indian forces responded promptly, thwarting the attacks, according to official sources.
