Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan’s Meer Foundation, a non-profit organisation known for helping acid attack victims all over the country, will carry out flood relief work in Amritsar district in association with local NGO Voice of Amritsar.
Meer Foundation, along with VOA, will carry out reconstruction work in two of the worst-affected villages along the banks of the Ravi, where the floods have displaced most of the inhabitants.

VOA founding member Seenu Arora said Meer Foundation had approached them for contributing to on-ground relief operations in Amritsar. “They are happy to contribute to the project submitted by VOA for distribution of household goods, including beds, mattresses, gas stoves, fans and water purifiers, among about 500 households, which Meer Foundation has adopted. Most villages located along the Ravi have been hit hard by floods. We had shortlisted five villages earlier and will begin work in the two most affected ones,” said Arora.
The VOA has also received support from Care Foundation, one of the oldest non-profit organisations based in Kolkata. VOA members are also working with a team of doctors from AIIMS to extend medical aid in Amritsar and Gurdaspur districts, besides providing food, dry ration and clothes to the flood victims.
