Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of turning the Election Commission into a "poll-rigging machine". In a post on X, he said that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) stands "shoulder to shoulder" with the Opposition in this fight.
Stalin's remarks come amidst allegations of "vote chori" (vote theft) made by Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. These allegations also led to a planned march of INDIA bloc MPs from Parliament to the Election Commission to protest over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar and other alleged electoral fraud.
"The VoteTheft evidence presented by my brother and LoP Thiru. Rahul Gandhi exposes the scale of this fraud," Stalin wrote, adding, "What happened in Bengaluru’s Mahadevapura is not an administrative lapse; it is a calculated conspiracy to steal the people’s mandate."
Stalin demanded the immediate release of a complete machine-readable voter roll for every state and an end to what he called "politically driven deletions". He also called for an independent investigation into this "subversion of our democracy".
The ongoing protest, which involves a march led by Rahul Gandhi, aims to oppose the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar and what the opposition describes as "voter fraud" during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Stalin concluded his statement by asserting that the DMK will not remain silent while the BJP "robs India’s democracy in broad daylight".
Meanwhile, targeting the Centre over the detention of Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders during opposition protests in Delhi against alleged "vote chori" (vote theft), Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday said "jails" cannot silence Gandhi's voice.
"As Rahul Gandhi started the fight for democracy & restoration of the sacrosanct power of every Indian’s vote... BJP has resorted to a dastardly act of detaining him and Priyanka Gandhi & other Congress leaders. Jails can’t crush the resolve or silence the voice of Rahul Gandhi," Reddy said in a post on X.
