Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has vowed to continue the state's protest against the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) until the central government agrees to its demands.
Speaking in the legislative assembly on Friday, Stalin condemned the NEET exam, calling it unfair and a barrier to social justice.
He argued that the exam favours students from urban areas and wealthy families, leaving poor students, especially those from rural areas, at a disadvantage.
"The NEET exam is only for city students and the rich. It is against social justice," Stalin stated. He stressed that many rural students cannot afford coaching classes, which are crucial for success in the exam. He warned that this would negatively impact medical services in rural areas.
Stalin highlighted the efforts made by the Tamil Nadu government to oppose NEET. The state formed a committee, led by AK Rajan, to review the issue.

Following the committee's recommendations, the assembly passed a resolution against NEET. However, the Centre rejected all of Tamil Nadu's requests. "Despite the committee’s report and the resolution passed by the assembly, the Union government has denied our request for an exemption from NEET," Stalin said.
The Chief Minister also criticised the central government’s actions, describing them as a "black page" in the history of India's federal system. He accused the BJP-led Centre of disrespecting the state's elected assembly and ignoring the will of the people. "The Union government has disrespected our assembly resolutions and the voice of the Tamil Nadu people," he added.
Stalin announced that the state would seek legal advice to pursue the matter further. He also revealed that a meeting with all political parties in Tamil Nadu would be held on April 9 to discuss the NEET issue. "In the next stage of our protest, we will consult legal experts to take the matter forward. A meeting with all political party leaders will be held at the Secretariat," Stalin stated.
He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to fulfilling the dreams of students and their parents. "The Tamil Nadu government will do everything possible to ensure the success of our students," he said. The state’s protest against NEET shows no signs of ending soon.
