During continuous rains, one of the old buildings of the Government KUMP School in Eroor collapsed on Sunday night. A major disaster was narrowly avoided as the building collapsed when the school was closed for classes. Local residents accused the authorities of inaction despite repeated warnings regarding the weakened structure.
The collapsed building, which was shut, was the school's old kitchen, they said. One of the residents informed that approximately 200 children attend the school. Exposed iron rods from the building are also said to pose a constant danger to students.
