Unidentified persons have been booked for reportedly pelting stones at the Jan Shatabdi Express train near Jindwari, officials said on Wednesday. They said no passenger was injured in the incident.
The incident took place on Tuesday evening when a group of people targeted the train near the Jindwari area, between Anandpur Sahib and Nangal Dam, as it was travelling from Una to New Delhi, railway officials said.
The stone pelting shattered windows of several coaches, but no passengers were harmed, the officials confirmed.
They said this was the first such incident reported on the Jan Shatabdi Express route. However, similar cases of stone pelting have earlier been reported on the same stretch involving the Vande Bharat Express, they added.
"In view of the recurring incidents, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) had already increased patrolling in the area and conducted awareness campaigns to educate migrant families and their children living near the railway tracks. The RPF had also warned of strict action against those found guilty of stone pelting," he said.
The Railway police have started an investigation to identify and trace the miscreants behind the attack, officials said.
