Solan Police have filed an FIR against several residents and students, including some girl students from Government College Darlaghat, after slogans were raised during Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s recent visit to the town.
The Chief Minister was in Darlaghat on Saturday to launch a series of animal husbandry schemes.
During the programme, a section of the crowd, upset over lunch arrangements, was heard shouting: “Sukhu ne bulaya hai, bhukhe hi tarpaya hai” (“Sukhu called us, only to leave us hungry”).
A video of the sloganeering quickly went viral on social media.
Superintendent of Police, Solan, Gaurav Singh, confirmed that an FIR had been registered in connection with the incident. He said some members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) from Government College Darlaghat had created a disturbance at the event. He said the students involved were neither official invitees nor participants in the programme. He further added that their presence was a deliberate attempt to disrupt the Chief Minister’s visit.
However, college authorities stated that four students from the Scouts and Guides unit had in fact been formally invited by the Animal Husbandry Department to welcome the Chief Minister.
The FIR was based on a complaint filed by a local resident, Basant Lal. In his statement, he said around 2 pm on October 2, when he went to have lunch at the event, he saw several girls raising slogans against the Chief Minister.
The complaint alleged that the act was intentional and aimed at creating regional hatred and enmity. It also noted that the identities of the students were not known at the time but would be shared with the police later.
The FIR was filed on October 4 at the Darlaghat police station under Sections 353(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). These sections deal with making or spreading statements, false information, or rumours with the intent to promote enmity, hatred, or ill will among groups based on religion, community, or other grounds.
Police said they had established common intention in the case and that the probe is ongoing. Repeated attempts to get a response from Arki MLA Sanjay Awasthi were unsuccessful.
