Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday extended support to a student protest organised by the Students Organisation of India (SOI) under the banner 'Bhavikh Bachao Morcha' outside Punjabi University in Patiala.
Addressing the gathering, Badal demanded accountability for alleged examination paper leaks in Punjab and called for the resignation of Education Minister Harjot Bains and Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh. He claimed that repeated exam leak incidents had affected the future of more than 10 lakh students in the state.
Targeting the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, Badal alleged that several examination papers had been leaked during its tenure, including the recent Pharmacy Officer recruitment examination. He accused the government of failing to take responsibility and alleged that it was focusing on publicity rather than addressing problems in the education sector.
Badal also raised concerns over vacancies in educational institutions, claiming that a large number of principal and teaching posts remain unfilled in government schools and colleges.
Speaking on employment, the SAD leader announced that if voted to power in 2027, his party would bring a law to reserve all government jobs in Punjab for Punjabis. He also said the party would push for 75 per cent local employment in private industries and promote skill development through a proposed world skill university.
Badal further said the SAD would introduce stricter laws against examination paper leaks and provide interest-free loans to encourage youth entrepreneurship.
Several SAD and SOI leaders were present during the protest.
