The leader of Shiromani Akali Dal Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday completed his religious penance. Sukhbkir performed penance at Sri Muktsar Sahib on December 12, as directed by the Sri Akal Takht.
Sukhbir, along with other Akali leaders on December 13, will bow before Sri Akal Takht Sahib and perform 'ardas' upon completion of their religious punishment.
On the final day of his religious punishment, Sukhbir, wheelchair-bound and dressed in a blue 'sewadar' uniform, continued his service while holding a spear. He participated in listening to Gurbani Kirtan and washing utensils in the community kitchen.
This marks the completion of his 10-day sentence.
Following the fulfillment of this sewa, the Akali Dal will begin efforts to restore the party's presence in Punjab.
Akal Takht - the highest temporal body of Sikhs announced punishment for Sukhbir and other leaders of SAD for "mistakes" committed by the Shiromani Akali Dal and its government in Punjab from 2007 to 2017.
On December 4, Sukhbir Singh Badal survived an assassination attempt when Khalistan supporter Narain Singh Chaurra opened fire at him.
