Narain Singh Chaura, the man who attempted an assassination bid at Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sukhbir Singh Badal outside Sri Darbar Sahib in Amritsar, was produced in court today and has been sent to a three-day police remand.
Initially, the police requested a seven-day remand, but the court granted a shorter period.
Chaura, a pro-Khalistan sympathiser, fired at Badal on Wednesday while the latter was performing penance outside the Golden Temple.
The murder bid was narrowly avoided, with Sukhbir Badal being unharmed.
Following Chaura's appearance in the court, a woman in the courtroom caused a commotion, raising slogans in his support.
Lawyer Kanwar Mubarak Singh confirmed the details, saying that while the police had sought an extended remand, the court decided on three days.
The incident has sparked tensions in Punjab, particularly due to Chaura’s alleged pro-Khalistan views and the high-profile nature of the attempted attack on a prominent political figure.
