Former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab and Shiromani Akali Dal leader, Sukhbir Singh Badal, is continuing his religious penance as directed by the Akal Takht. On the seventh day of his sewa, he visited Takht Sri Damdama Sahib to carry out his service.

Despite being wheelchair-bound and a Z+ security protectee, Sukhbir Singh Badal, wearing a blue 'sewadar' uniform and holding a spear, is performing the duties of a sewadar. He is stationed at the gate of the gurdwara, listens to kirtan, and helps wash dishes in the community kitchen.

Badal, surrounded by heavy security, sat at the entrance of the gurdwara from 9 am for an hour, followed by listening to gurbani kirtan and washing dishes. This penance is part of a religious punishment given to him by the Akal Takht for his alleged misconduct during his tenure as deputy chief minister.

The Akal Takht has instructed Badal to continue his penance at other prominent gurdwaras, including the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Takht Kesgarh Sahib, Takht Damdama Sahib, Darbar Sahib in Muktsar, and Fatehgarh Sahib.

Earlier, on December 4, Sukhbir Singh Badal survived an assassination attempt when Khalistan supporter Narein Singh Chaurra opened fire at him.
