Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday directed state government officials to restore normalcy and essential services in areas affected by heavy snowfall, according to an official statement.

The Chief Minister asked officials to work on a war footing, keeping in mind that tourism activity is likely to increase across the state following the snowfall.
He said roads leading to hospitals and other emergency service facilities must be cleared on priority to ensure uninterrupted access to healthcare services.

To reduce inconvenience to the public, Sukhu told officials to deploy sufficient manpower and heavy machinery to quickly reopen blocked roads, the statement said.

The Chief Minister also instructed officials to restore power and water supply schemes in affected areas and asked district administrations to remain alert and provide immediate help to people in need.

The Department of Food and Civil Supplies, along with the State Civil Supplies Corporation, has been asked to take advance steps to ensure an uninterrupted supply of foodgrains and essential commodities in snow-bound areas.

All departments have been instructed to strictly follow the safety guidelines issued by the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority, the statement added.

Sukhu said the rain and snowfall have brought much-needed respite to farmers and orchardists, giving a boost to agriculture and the rural economy. He also welcomed tourists to the state, saying the fresh snowfall is expected to energise tourism-related activities across Himachal Pradesh.

Speaking on long-term concerns, Sukhu referred to the growing impact of climate change on the environment and said the state government has directed officials to carry out detailed studies on the issue.

"This initiative aims to integrate necessary environmental conservation provisions into future policies and development programs to ensure a sustainable future for Himachal Pradesh," he said.
