On the 56th Foundation Day of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu congratulated the people of the state and expressed pride in the university's 55 years of service in educating the youth.

He said HPU is more than just an academic institution but also a reflection of the social, political, cultural and economic development of the state. The university has produced many bright students who have made their mark in various fields and brought recognition to Himachal.

Calling himself a proud alumnus, Sukhu shared how his time at the university shaped his thinking and personality. He warmly recalled his days on campus—the guidance of his teachers and the friendships he made, which still hold a special place in his heart.

Sukhu stressed that in today’s fast-changing world of technology and innovation, the university must adapt to stay relevant. He said both academics and administration should evolve with the times. The university must become a powerful symbol of transformation, where not only academic curricula is modernised but administrative systems were also reformed.

He said that the university should adopt flexible and streamlined processes to frame and revise curricula regularly, besides introducing fresh and relevant content in line with the changing times.

He suggested that outdated courses be phased out, while new, practical ones be introduced. The goal, he said, is not just to hand out degrees but to equip students with real-world skills so they can be confident, self-reliant, and future-ready after they step out of the university.

The Chief Minister appreciated the university’s move to set up five new research centres, calling it a positive step toward progress. He also praised Vice-Chancellor Mahavir Singh for his commendable efforts and encouraged the university to continue growing and reaching new milestones.

Lastly, Sukhu thanked the university’s teaching and non-teaching staff for generously donating a portion of their salaries to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to support those affected by recent disasters.
