Former BJP Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, Jai Ram Thakur, accused Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of prioritising politics over state interests by skipping the NITI Aayog meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi.
Thakur criticised Sukhu for missing a crucial opportunity to address urgent state issues and seek financial support from the Centre amid Himachal Pradesh's financial crisis. "The meeting was a good platform to take up state issues with the Centre. But the Himachal CM boycotted on political lines," Thakur stated.
Highlighting the developmental stagnation in Himachal under Congress rule, Thakur claimed the state government is accruing loans without visible progress on the ground. "In their 18-month rule, they have exceeded our five-year loan amount," he added, pointing out the unrepaired infrastructure damaged in last year’s monsoons.
Thakur accused Sukhu of deliberately missing the chance to secure additional aid from the Prime Minister, questioning the utilization of previous financial assistance for last year’s calamity relief. He cited grievances from Mandi district residents who received no relief despite severe losses.
The BJP leader also criticised the state government for increasing fees for TGT and TET tests, alleging it burdens the unemployed, and condemned the inefficacy of the Committee for Resource Mobilisation. Thakur accused the Congress of breaking electoral promises, citing the withdrawal of free power units initially implemented by the BJP.
Thakur condemned the Congress government's approach to investments, particularly their decision to return the Centre's Rs 30 crore for the Drug Park and medical device park projects. He asserted that these projects could have created significant employment opportunities, lamenting the government's apparent disinterest.
In conclusion, Thakur denounced the state government's overall performance, accusing it of misleading the public and failing to prioritise the state’s development and financial stability.
