Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday launched the Indira Gandhi Pyari Behna Sukh Sammaan Nidhi Yojana, disbursing benefits to 2,238 eligible women from the Banjar development block in Kullu district.
Under the scheme, the government transferred ₹4,500 per beneficiary—covering April to June 2025—directly into the recipients’ savings accounts, amounting to a total disbursement of ₹1,00,71,000.
Speaking at the event, CM Sukhu reaffirmed his government’s commitment to providing ₹1,500 per month to eligible women. “Our government is determined to ensure that all deprived sections benefit from the state’s resources,” he said, adding that domestic workers and daughters of widows would soon be brought under the scheme’s ambit.
Addressing criticism from BJP leaders on the Rs 1,500 scheme, Sukhu said the government had saved public funds by curbing corruption, enabling phased implementation of the welfare scheme. “In the first phase, 2,238 women from Banjar are receiving the pension. All eligible women will be covered in the coming days.”
The CM also distributed ₹5.87 lakh among 37 beneficiaries under other state schemes including Beti Hai Anmol Yojana, Shagun Yojana, Mukhya Mantri Kanyadan Yojana, Mukhya Mantri Sukh Shiksha Yojana, and Mukhya Mantri Sukh-Aashray Yojana. Track suits were also distributed under the Sukh-Aashray scheme.
Sukhu encouraged the public to actively enroll in welfare schemes to fully benefit from the government’s initiatives.
