Nearly 10,000 women are expected to take part in a state-level event to celebrate International Women’s Day in Nahan, Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district, on March 8, an official said on Friday.
The event, being organised under the aegis of the Directorate of Women and Child Development, aims to strengthen commitment towards women’s rights, dignity and empowerment. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu will attend the event as the chief guest, according to a statement issued here.
Nearly 10,000 women from different parts of the state, including Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, members of Mahila Mandals and elected representatives from Panchayati Raj institutions and urban local bodies, are expected to take part in the programme, the statement added.
The celebration recognises women’s historical struggles, achievements and invaluable contributions to society. It also seeks to promote gender equality and empowerment in areas such as education, health, nutrition, economic self-reliance and safety.
The event will also highlight government initiatives through departmental exhibitions and special stalls. These stalls will feature products made by women self-help groups, showcasing their skills and entrepreneurship while helping create new market opportunities for local products, a spokesperson of the Himachal Department of Social Justice and Empowerment said on Friday.
