The Jammu and Kashmir government is planning to announce the 2026 summer vacation schedule for schools across the Kashmir Valley from the second week of July, as temperatures witness an alarming rise.
The Valley is expected to witness a heatwave in July, coinciding with the commencement of the 2026 Amarnath Yatra.
Daytime temperatures across the Valley have reached unusually high levels over the past week, with the temperatures likely touching 35°C on Monday.
Minister for Health and Medical Education Sakeena Itoo said the government is planning to announce summer vacations for schools from the second week of July. She said the exact dates have not yet been finalised and that the final decision would be announced soon after she returns from New Delhi.
She requested parents and students to rely only on official channels for updates and avoid paying heed to rumours circulating on social media platforms. She clarified that messages regarding summer vacations being circulated on social media platforms and messaging groups are fake.
The government will announce the vacation schedule after holding proper consultations with all stakeholders.
While the dates for the summer break are yet to be finalised, the Transport Commissioner has advised the public to avoid unnecessary visits during the ongoing heatwave.
