In response to the rising temperatures across the region, the Punjab Government has officially announced summer vacations for all schools in the state.
As per the notification issued by Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, the summer break will be observed from June 2 to June 30, 2025. The decision applies to all government, aided, and private schools across Punjab.
The announcement follows growing concerns from parents amid the intense heatwave, prompting calls for an early break. While Punjab's summer holidays begin on June 2, the neighboring union territory of Chandigarh had already declared its school vacations earlier. Meanwhile, in Haryana, schools will commence their summer break on June 1, which falls on a Sunday this year.
Last year, the Punjab Government had announced the holidays earlier in May due to an early heatwave. At that time, schools adopted a unique approach to vacation homework, focusing on family values and emotional development through interactive, play-based assignments aimed at keeping children meaningfully engaged during the break.
