The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Jharkhand Police and the Special Cell of Delhi Police arrested a suspected Al Qaeda terrorist, Shahbaz Ansari, from Chitri village in the Chanho area of Ranchi district, Jharkhand, today.
Ansari is an accused in case number 301/24, registered against him and several others last year.
Delhi Police will present Ansari in a Ranchi court and seek his transit remand for further investigation in Delhi.
Notably, the Delhi Police had conducted major operations in Jharkhand, Delhi, and Rajasthan last year with the assistance of central agencies and police from different states regarding the plotting of a serious terrorist conspiracy, including the declaration of Khilafat in India.
The ATS of Jharkhand Police had previously arrested eight suspects affiliated with Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent.
Additionally, six suspects undergoing training in Rajasthan were also apprehended, most of whom are residents of Jharkhand. Shahbaz Ansari had been absconding in the case.
Both Jharkhand ATS and Delhi's Special Cell received intelligence that Shahbaz Ansari had returned to his village, Chitri, located on the border of Ranchi and Lohardaga districts. He was subsequently arrested during a joint operation.
Earlier, in August 2024, Jharkhand ATS arrested eight terror suspects following a series of coordinated raids at 16 locations across the state.
During the operation, a cache of weapons, laptops, mobile phones, and suspicious documents were recovered.
