As many as 12 members of a single family of Jammu and Kashmir’s Handwara village lost consciousness allegedly due to food poisoning, officials said on Monday.
Investigating officials believe that the family fell ill after consuming contaminated food, while further investigation is underway.
Officials said the family became seriously unwell soon after consuming their evening meal. They were quickly rushed to the local primary health centre.
Upon examining the patients, the health officials shifted them to the nearby government medical college in Handwara for further treatment.
Hospital authorities confirmed that everyone was now out of danger and in stable condition, showing positive signs of recovery under observation. Meanwhile, doctors are conducting more tests to find out the exact cause of the food poisoning.
Food samples have been sent for laboratory analysis to determine whether spoiled ingredients were responsible.
Cases of food poisoning are extremely rare in Jammu and Kashmir; however a few occasional cases have been reported in 205. In August, more than 100 members of a film crew fell ill after consuming adulterated or rotten ingredients in their food. Fortunately, all recovered after quick and timely treatment at a government medical college.
Earlier, in January, another similar case was reported at a seminary in Poonch, where 14 students and two teachers suffered from food poisoning.
