A man suspected to be a terrorist was killed in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district following a gunbattle with security forces early on Thursday, police officials have said.
The gunbattle ensued during cordon and search operations in the Arshipora region of Pulwama district after security forces were tipped off about the presence of militants in the area.
According to senior police officials, the terrorists opened fire on the search party that zeroed in on their hideout.
One terrorist was presumed dead as the security forces returned the fire; his body was seen but not recovered. Another terrorist was thought to be trapped as firing continued.
Meanwhile, the Pulwama SSP's office posted on their official X account, “Gunfight started at wee hours in Frasi Pora, Pulwama, between militants and security forces, operation underway.”
All entry and exit points in the area have been sealed.
There have been several incidents between terrorists and security personnel in Kashmir, with numerous terrorists killed in recent weeks.
This encounter occurred about a week after one terrorist was killed when the Indian Army foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Baramulla district's Uri.
