Tension prevailed in Punjab’s Pathankot region on Monday after a suspicious balloon, suspected to have drifted in from Pakistan, was found near Defense Road in Karauli village. The incident has once again raised security concerns in the sensitive border district.
Acting on an alert, the local police reached the spot promptly and took possession of the balloon. Although no suspicious items or messages were attached to it, the authorities are taking the incident seriously given the region’s strategic importance.
The balloon has been sent for forensic analysis, and security has been tightened in the area as a precautionary measure. Officials have not ruled out the possibility of the object being used as part of a psychological tactic or low-grade surveillance attempt.
This is not the first such occurrence—similar balloons have been recovered in the past from various locations along the India-Pakistan border, triggering periodic alerts among security forces.
The police have urged residents to stay calm but vigilant and to report any unusual sightings or activities immediately.
