The Chevella Lok Sabha MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy presented himself before the investigating officers at Jubilee Hills Police Station on Friday.

Bharatiya Janata Party MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy on Friday deposed before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the phone tapping during the last Bharat Rashtra Samithi government. The Chevella Lok Sabha MP presented himself before the investigating officers at Jubilee Hills Police Station. The SIT, which had called Reddy to appear before it as a witness, recorded his statement. Reddy was among the politicians whose phone numbers were allegedly tapped by the then Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government in the 2023 Assembly elections.

The mobile number of MP was discovered in the CDR list of the Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) that had maintained surveillance on many opposition party leaders, journalists, businessmen and others.

Media personality Radhakrishna also appeared before the SIT on Friday to record his statement. The Managing Director of ‘Andhra Jyothi’ testified before Jubilee Hills ACP P Venkatigiri.

The SIT on June 17 recorded a statement of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President B. Mahesh Kumar Goud who insisted that the then-ruling party leaders who instructed tapping of phones of their political opponents and the IAS and IPS officers who implemented the orders must be punished. He claimed that 650 Congress leaders' phones were tapped by the earlier government.

Goud, who was acting as the working president of the TPCC in November 2023, is claimed to have been victimised through illegal phone tapping.

The SIT deepened its investigation after the return of former Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) chief T. Prabhakar Rao, the prime accused in the case, from the US earlier this month. The SIT has interrogated Prabhakar Rao on multiple occasions. He is said to have established a Special Operations Team with a suspended DSP in the SIB to intercept phones of leaders of opposition parties and some others to favor the then-governing political party and their leaders.

Political leaders, businessmen, celebrities, journalists, members of civil society and even judges had their phones allegedly intercepted by the team.

The ex-Indian Police Service (IPS) man was questioned on the basis of depositions of former deputy superintendent of police D Praneeth Rao, retired deputy commissioner of police P. Radha Kishan Rao and other superintendents of police N Bhujanga Rao and M Thirupathanna, who were arrested in the case last year and were recently released on bail.
