Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday accused Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao and BRS working president KT Rama Rao of blocking the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-2 expansion project.
Addressing media at the Secretariat, the Chief Minister alleged that both the previous state government and the Centre had failed to support the expansion of the Metro network despite growing public demand.
Under the proposed Phase II-A, the Telangana government has planned five corridors spanning 76.4 km at an estimated cost of Rs 24,269 crore. The funding structure includes Rs 7,313 crore from the state government, Rs 4,230 crore from the Centre, Rs 11,693 crore through loans, and Rs 1,033 crore via public-private partnership (PPP).
The proposed routes under this phase include Nagole to Shamshabad Airport, Raidurgam to Kokapet Neopolis, MGBS to Chandrayangutta, Miyapur to Patancheru, and LB Nagar to Hayatnagar.
Phase II-B further envisions three additional corridors covering 86.1 km at an estimated cost of Rs 19,579 crore. Of this, Rs 5,874 crore is expected from the state, Rs 3,524 crore from the Centre, Rs 9,398 crore through debt, and Rs 783 crore via PPP. The proposed corridors include Shamshabad Airport to Future City, JBS to Medchal, and JBS to Shamirpet.

Reddy claimed that delays during the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government had significantly escalated project costs—from around Rs 15,000 crore to nearly Rs 22,000 crore. He also stated that Larsen & Toubro (L&T), the company that executed the Metro project, had informed the government that delays in Phase-2 expansion were causing annual losses of approximately Rs 400 crore.
According to the Chief Minister, the cost of Metro construction currently stands at around Rs 350 crore per kilometre, while L&T is burdened with debts exceeding Rs 13,600 crore. He added that the state government is making efforts to secure financial assistance to move the project forward.
The Chief Minister further alleged that despite repeated requests, the Centre has not extended the necessary support for the Hyderabad Metro Phase-2 project. He accused Kishan Reddy of failing to advocate for Telangana’s development despite being a Union Minister from the state.
“KCR, KTR and Kishan Reddy together blocked Metro Phase-2. While Metro projects in Ahmedabad and Visakhapatnam received approvals, Hyderabad’s proposal was stalled,” he said.
Reddy also accused the Union government of discriminating against Telangana, claiming that key infrastructure initiatives such as the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR) around Hyderabad have not progressed despite earlier announcements.
He further criticised the Centre over issues including employment generation and alleged unfulfilled election promises, asserting that Telangana has not received its fair share of support from the Union government.
The allegations come amid ongoing political tensions between the state government and the Centre over funding and infrastructure development priorities.
