A 23-year-old engineering student was brutally murdered late Thursday night in the Chilkalguda area, Secunderabad, in what is suspected to be a case linked to a relationship dispute.
The victim, identified as Yavan, a third-year B.Tech student and resident of Jawahar Nagar, was allegedly chased and stabbed to death by a group of assailants. According to police and local sources, Yavan had been in a relationship with a young woman from Sitaphalmandi for the past four years. Her family had reportedly opposed the relationship and had issued multiple warnings to him.
Despite the objections, Yavan continued to meet the woman and had been staying at a friend’s house in Indira Nagar, Sitaphalmandi. On Thursday night, while he was watching television, six unidentified individuals arrived on three motorcycles and allegedly attacked him with knives.
Eyewitnesses said the victim attempted to flee and ran onto the street seeking help. However, the attackers chased him down and stabbed him repeatedly before escaping the scene. “We heard screams and rushed outside. By the time people gathered, the attackers had already fled. The young man was lying in a pool of blood,” a local resident said.
Severely injured, Yavan was rushed to Gandhi Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Following the incident, tensions escalated as the victim’s family and relatives staged protests, demanding immediate arrest and strict punishment for those involved. Protesters blocked the road with the victim’s body and raised slogans against the accused. The situation intensified when some attempted to march towards the young woman’s residence, prompting police intervention and leading to further commotion.
“He was brutally killed in front of everyone. Those responsible must be arrested immediately and given severe punishment,” a family member said.
Police have since deployed heavy security in Chilkalguda and adjoining areas to maintain law and order. Officials confirmed that special teams have been formed to identify and apprehend the attackers. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
