A 40-year-old man is alleged to have murdered his wife, daughter, and sister-in-law before taking his own life in the early hours of Sunday in the Vikarabad district of Telangana. Police confirmed that a second daughter of the man managed to survive the horrific attack.
The emergency services were alerted to the incident, which occurred between 2.30 am and 3 am in Kulkacherla mandal, via the 'Dial 100' service. Officers immediately dispatched a team to the location.
According to officials, the man reportedly used a sickle to attack his wife (aged in her mid-30s), his younger daughter (around 10 years old), and his sister-in-law (in her mid-40s) while they were all asleep.
He also attempted to kill his elder daughter, but she managed to escape, sustaining injuries. She has since been admitted to hospital. The man later died by hanging himself inside the house.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the couple had been experiencing domestic disputes. A case has been registered, and further enquiries are now underway.
The man’s elder daughter, who is currently receiving hospital treatment, provided police with a harrowing account. She stated that her parents had quarrelled on Saturday, leading to her mother leaving the house. Her mother later returned and called her aunt (the sister-in-law), who then came over.
The girl recounted to police and TV channels that, as the family slept, her father first attacked her aunt with the sickle. “When my mother tried to save her, he attacked her too. Both of them died,” she stated.
She went on to say that her father then turned to her and her younger sister, reportedly saying, "What will you do after they die, and who will look after you?" before attacking them.
“My younger sister died in the attack. I ran out but sustained injuries on my head,” the girl explained. She added that, with the help of residents, she later discovered her father had hanged himself.
