The food safety authorities on Thursday raided the Madhapur branch of Rameshwaram Cafe in Hyderabad. The Telangana Food Safety Department inspectors discovered various infractions, including the restaurant’s use of expired and unlabeled food products.

Eight litres of milk, 10 kg of Nandini curd and 100 kg of Urad Dal, valued at ₹16,000, were discovered in the kitchen and were confirmed to be expired, according to the food safety agency.

Furthermore, from the kitchen, 300 kg of unlabeled jaggery, 20 kg of white labia and 450 kg of raw rice with incorrect labels were removed.

Moreover, Rameshwaram Café’s dustbins were left without lids, and the medical fitness certificate required of food handlers was not turned in.

Several other well-known restaurants were found violating hygiene regulations when food safety department inspectors raided their premises in Hyderabad. Another eatery called Baahubali Kitchen was also raided the same day.

The teams discovered synthetic food colouring that had been thrown out at the Bahubali Kitchen.

There was a significant cockroach infestation in the kitchen and also on food items which were discovered in the storage.

There were no pest control records discovered at Madhapur restaurant.

The cleaning section of the kitchen was found to have stagnant water, making it extremely unsanitary.

Food products that were semi-prepared or uncooked were not adequately kept in the refrigerator.

Furthermore, a genuine copy of the FSSAI Licence was not on display at the location, nor were medical fitness certifications for food handlers available.

On Twitter, the Telangana Food Safety Department stated that nearly every hotel that the authorities investigated had the same issues: outdated food items, poor hygiene and unsatisfactory personnel.

Meanwhile, Rameshwaram Cafe has extended its Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) network outside Bangalore, opening in Hyderabad’s Madhapur district in January of this year.

A favourite among foodies, the café has become increasingly popular in recent years for its famous ghee-ladden idlis and dosas.

A recent bombing at the Kundalahalli branch of Bengaluru put the packed restaurant in the limelight. The March 1 bombing that rocked Bengaluru left at least ten persons injured.
