The Tamil Nadu government on Monday signed two separate Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Japan’s MinebeaMitsumi and the Bengaluru-based Aequs Group, entailing a combined investment of ₹5,980 crore and the creation of 8,400 jobs in the semiconductor and aerospace sectors.

The agreements were inked in the presence of Chief Minister M. K. Stalin at the Secretariat here.

NMB Minebea India Private Limited, a subsidiary of MinebeaMitsumi, has committed ₹1,980 crore to set up a manufacturing and research and development centre in Tiruvallur district. The facility will come up at the Mahindra Origins Industrial Park and will establish a complete manufacturing ecosystem for high-value semiconductors, including Insulated-Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBT), Integrated Circuits (IC), as well as motors and sensors.

The project is expected to generate 1,400 jobs, with over 40 per cent of the positions earmarked for high-skilled technical personnel.

In a separate investment proposal, Aequs Group has pledged ₹4,000 crore to strengthen the state’s aerospace manufacturing base at the SIPCOT-Shoolagiri Industrial Park in Krishnagiri district. The company plans to develop a specialised aerospace and defence manufacturing cluster focused on aircraft engines, gearbox components and precision engineering parts.

This initiative is projected to create employment for 7,000 people.

According to an official release, the twin investments are in line with the state government’s strategy to reinforce Tamil Nadu’s standing as a premier industrial and economic hub, while generating quality employment opportunities for youth and women.

The signing ceremony was attended by Industries Minister T R B Rajaa, Chief Secretary N Muruganandam, and senior executives from both firms, including MinebeaMitsumi Director and President Katsuhiko Yoshida and Aequs Co-founder and Managing Director Rajeev Kaul.
