BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh expressed serious concern over the “deteriorating” law and order situation in Punjab on Sunday. He cited the killing of Punjab Police ASI Joga Singh near Majitha in Amritsar and violence inside Kapurthala Central Jail as examples of what he called a “total administrative collapse”.

Demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the BJP general secretary said in a press statement that the “cold-blooded murder” of a police employee while on duty has exposed serious insecurity in the state.

He added, “If Punjab Police personnel themselves are not safe, what security can ordinary citizens expect under the Bhagwant Mann government?”

On the Kapurthala Central Jail violence, Chugh said inmates turned violent and set barracks on fire. They also climbed rooftops and attacked jail staff. Police used tear gas and lathi charge to restore order. He called it a collapse of jail administration in Punjab. He said these incidents are not isolated, adding that Punjab has seen repeated attacks on police posts and police establishments. He also claimed extortion cases, targeted killings, and gang activities have increased in recent months.

Chugh also said that Punjab jails have become “safe havens” for organised crime. He said extortion networks operate inside, narcotics circulate freely, and gangsters continue to function from within prisons.

He said, “The Kapurthala jail violence and the killing of a police employee show that Punjab is being pushed towards Jungle Raj.” He added that fear, lawlessness, gang violence, and administrative failure have become the identity of the government.

He further alleged that politically influenced policing, weak governance, and administrative failure have strengthened gangsters, anti-national forces, and criminal groups in the sensitive border state.
