A Junior Basic Training (JBT) teacher posted at a government school in Mehla development block was terminated by the Education Department for allegedly beating a student.

The suspended teacher, Ashwani Kumar, has been asked to report to the Block Elementary Education Officer’s office, Kalhel, at Nakrod.

Chamba Deputy Director of Elementary Education, Balbir Singh, said the department had taken cognisance of the incident in which the teacher allegedly hit a student, resulting in ear injuries. The injured child has been admitted to Chamba Medical College for treatment.

A video of the incident went viral on social media, in which the victim’s parents claimed that the teacher had brutally beaten their son, which damaged both his ears and required surgery.

The teacher, however, denied the allegations. He claimed that the student’s grandmother and mother, who both work as cook-cum-helpers in the same school, had made a false complaint. He further added that he had recently issued show-cause notices to them for being absent from duty for a long time.

Meanwhile, the Education Department has formed a three-member committee to probe the case.
