A youth from Kinnaur drowned in the Bhagsunag waterfall near McLeodganj on Thursday evening, officials confirmed.
The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Hrithik Kumar of Barang village near Kalpa in Kinnaur. Hrithik was on a trip to Dharamsala-McLeodganj with his friend Shashank, also from Barang village.
The tragedy occurred while they were bathing in the waterfall. Hrithik reportedly went too far into deep water despite being warned by others present. He drowned before anyone could help.
A police team from McLeodganj police station, headed by SHO Deepak Kumar, reached the spot and began a probe. The body was recovered and sent to the zonal hospital in Dharamsala for post-mortem.
Police have recorded statements of witnesses and started inquest proceedings. The victim’s family has been informed about the incident.
