A government school teacher has been suspended by the Directorate of School Education after 24 girl students accused him of sexual harassment in Sirmaur district.
The incident came to light at the Government Model Senior Secondary School, Rajgarh, in Sirmaur, when 24 girl students of the same school formally registered a complaint alleging sexual harassment by a TGT (non-medical) teacher. The accused is currently in police custody.
The girl students alleged that the teacher behaved inappropriately with multiple girl students over a period of time. The students eventually gathered the courage and informed the school authorities about the incidents. The authorities later informed the police and the education department.
An FIR has been registered against him under Section 75 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 10 of the POCSO Act. A departmental inquiry has also been initiated by the School Education Department.
Ritu Gupta, Deputy Director (Quality) of Samagra Shiksha, Nahan, will be heading the preliminary investigation. She has been directed to visit the school, speak to students and staff, and submit her report to the Director of School Education within a week.
“It’s a very serious case, and we will take strict action against the offender once the inquiry is over,” said Ashish Kohli, Director of School Education.
