In Mauganj, Madhya Pradesh, a 35-year-old lady teacher, Reshma Pandey, tragically ended her life after falling victim to a cyber fraud. The incident occurred in the Ghurehta area of Mauganj, where Reshma was targeted by cyber-criminals pretending to be law enforcement officers.
The fraudsters claimed that a parcel in Reshma's name contained immoral material, and they threatened to file an FIR against her. They even sent her videos of individuals dressed as Indian Army and Police officers, further intimidating her with their authority.
The fraudsters pressured Reshma for money, claiming they would arrest her if she didn't comply.
Out of fear, Reshma transferred Rs 25,000 from her bank account to the fraudsters. Despite this, the criminals continued to demand more, threatening her with a fine of Rs 50,000 and imprisonment.
When she couldn't raise the additional money, they blackmailed her further, even sending calls and videos. In desperation, Reshma sent ₹5,500 more before taking poison.
Reshma was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Rewa, but sadly, she passed away during treatment. Her family was unaware of the digital arrest and the scam she was caught in.
Reshma's brother-in-law, Vinod Pandey, mentioned that she was alone at home when the fraudsters made their threats, leaving her with no one to turn to for help.
The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter. Superintendent of Police Rasna Thakur stated that the fraudsters had threatened to file a case of theft if Reshma did not comply with their demands. This tragic incident highlights the dangers of cyber fraud and the emotional toll it can take on victims.
