An IT professional was allegedly assaulted and abducted from Newtown Sector V on Tuesday evening. Swift police action, however, led to his rescue within a few hours and the arrest of six individuals involved in the crime.
According to police sources and eyewitness accounts, the victim, identified as Ankan Saha, was leaving his office between 5:00 pm and 5:30 pm on Tuesday when the incident occurred. As he approached his car, five young men reportedly attacked him, knocking him to the ground and assaulting him. Moments later, a white Scorpio vehicle arrived at the scene. The attackers forcibly dragged Saha into the vehicle and fled, leaving bystanders stunned.
Eyewitness Asim Biswas said that the entire episode took place within seconds, leaving people in shock. He immediately alerted the local police station.
Acting promptly, officers from the Electronic Complex Police Station initiated an investigation. CCTV footage from the area helped identify the registration number of the vehicle used in the abduction. The police traced the owner of the vehicle and obtained the driver’s contact details. Subsequent phone tracking revealed that the vehicle was heading towards Barajagulia in adjoining Nadia district via National Highway 12.

The Electronic Complex Police quickly coordinated with the Haringhata Police Station, and a joint operation was launched. The vehicle was intercepted in the Barajagulia area, leading to Saha’s safe rescue. All six accused, including the five individuals present in the vehicle, were taken into custody.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the abduction may have been linked to a financial dispute. Police sources indicate that Saha had allegedly borrowed Rs 78 lakh from an individual, and the attack may have been an attempt to recover the outstanding amount.
Authorities are currently interrogating the arrested individuals and probing whether there are deeper motives behind the incident.
