A software engineer allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death inside her rented flat in Haryana's Gurugram before taking his own life by jumping in front of a train, police have said. The tragic case came to light after the woman's family grew increasingly worried when she stopped answering their calls and alerted the local authorities. This has thrown a shock wave among the business community as investigators seek to establish the chain of events that led to this murder-suicide case.
The victim in this case, who has been identified as Ishara Ayubi, hailed from Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh and was staying in a rented apartment in Sector 55 of Gurugram. As per the police report, her family members got into contact with the Sector 56 police station since all their efforts to connect with Ayubi failed. Upon entering the apartment, which was locked, the officers discovered the victim bleeding on the floor. She had suffered knife stab wounds.
As the investigation got underway, police learned that the victim's friend, 25-year-old Shresth Malik, a software engineer from Bhilai in Chhattisgarh, had recently visited the flat. While officers were actively searching for him, they received reports of a man's body found on the railway tracks near the Garhi Harsaru railway station. The deceased was subsequently identified as Malik through a mobile phone recovered from his clothes, directly linking the two incidents.
Investigators believe that Malik took the drastic step immediately after killing Ayubi. Both bodies have been sent for a post-mortem examination, and their respective families have been informed of the tragedy.
A senior police officer revealed that Ayubi had only moved into the accommodation with Malik three days prior to the incident. The officer added that teams are currently examining all aspects of the case, and whilst the exact motive remains unclear, a thorough analysis of the couple's mobile phones, call logs, and text messages is underway to understand the nature of their relationship. A formal First Information Report (FIR) has been registered on charges of murder, and further police inquiries are ongoing.
