Five persons lost their lives and several others hurt after a bus with around 28 passengers fell into a 70-metre-deep gorge near Kunjapuri–Hindolakhal in the Narendranagar area of Tehri district in Uttarakhand on Monday, officials said. Rescue efforts are currently underway.
State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) officials stated that the district control room informed the SDRF Corps Control Room about the mishap on Monday afternoon, saying the vehicle had slipped off the road within the Narendranagar police station limits. The bus was earlier believed to be carrying 30–35 people.
After receiving the alert, the SDRF sent five teams from Post Dhalwala, Post Koti Colony and the SDRF Corps Headquarters to the accident spot.
SDRF officials said five passengers died at the accident site. All other injured people are being pulled out of the gorge and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Officials said the travelers on board were reportedly from outside Uttarakhand. More information is awaited and the report will be updated once details are available.
