Tejashwi says it’s time for youth, wants to be Bihar CM

Addressing a gathering of the Musahar-Bhuiyan community—considered one of the most backward even among Dalits—Yadav appealed for their support, promising transformative change if the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan comes to power.

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has called on the people of Bihar to support him as the next Chief Minister, arguing that the time has come for the youth to lead the state. Drawing a sharp analogy, he likened the current Nitish Kumar-led government to a 20-year-old clunker that is no longer functional and must be replaced.

Addressing a gathering of the Musahar-Bhuiyan community—considered one of the most backward even among Dalits—Yadav appealed for their support, promising transformative change if the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan comes to power. He said that people from the community, many of whom currently live in slums, night shelters, or on the roadside, would benefit significantly once his government is formed.

With a strong emotional pitch, he said, “Once you make this son of yours the Chief Minister, he will eradicate your poverty. You will be provided with pucca houses. I need your support and love to fulfil this mission.” Yadav was the Chief Ministerial face for the Mahagathbandhan in the previous assembly elections and continues to position himself as the alternative to the current leadership.

He contrasted the current government's approach with that of his father, RJD president Lalu Prasad Yadav, saying that the earlier RJD regime brought dignity and justice to the socially marginalised.

He accused the Nitish Kumar government of being indifferent, and even hostile, toward the poor. He also took a swipe at the BJP and RSS, claiming they have never worked for the betterment of Dalits, SCs, or STs.

Yadav also criticised the BJP-led central government, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of making false promises to Bihar. He said, “Before every election, they say they will make Bihar the number one state in the country. PM Modi has been in power for more than 10 years, but Bihar remains one of the most backward states.” He blamed the BJP-Nitish alliance for the state’s continued underdevelopment.

The Musahar-Bhuiyan community plays a crucial electoral role in many constituencies across Bihar. As per the caste survey conducted in 2023, the community has a population of 40.357 lakh, accounting for 3.087% of the state’s total population.

With this appeal, Tejashwi Yadav is clearly seeking to mobilise the support of one of the most marginalised groups in Bihar, while reinforcing his image as a young leader promising inclusive development.
