Notifications for the biennial elections for ten Legislative Council seats in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have been released by the Election Commission of India.
On March 20, members of both states' Legislative Assemblies will vote to choose new representatives.
On March 29, 2025, the retiring MLCs from both states will finish their terms.
With notable departing members like Mahmood Ali, Satyavathi Rathod, and Seri Subash Reddy (BRS), Mallesham Yegge (Congress, a former BRS member), and Mirza Riyazul Hassan Effendi (AIMIM), five MLC seats in Telangana will be up for grabs. Congress, which currently holds 64 seats in the 119-member Assembly, is expected to win three MLC seats.

To strengthen its standing, the party can form alliances with AIMIM (7 seats) and CPI (1 seat). In the interim, BRS (28 MLAs)
There are five MLC seats available in Andhra Pradesh. With 164 MLAs in the 175-member Assembly, the NDA coalition (TDP-Jana Sena-BJP) is predicted to win every seat.
Among the prominent departing members are Janga Krishna Murthy (who has held the position since May 2024), Duvvarapu Rama Rao (TDP), and Yanamala Rama Krishnudu.
Three seats are probably going to be given to allies by the TDP: Two to the Jana Sena and one to the BJP.
Actor Nagendra Babu, the brother of Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and former minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao are notable contenders.
These elections will put the Congress' alliance plan to the test in Telangana and solidify the NDA's hold on power in Andhra Pradesh; the results will be announced on March 20.
